I have no idea what that one star review is about but having read that the guy purchased his stove on Craigs List, his review and experience should have nothing to do with the Hearth Expressions store. It sounds as though he discovered that the seller also owned the store and then assumed he would comp expensive parts that were not listed in the crags list purchase. What a jerk! My experience couldn't be more different from that guy. John, the owner, is very competent, fair and very attentive to his customers. I have purchased two fireplaces from Hearth Expressions and all have been very pleasant experiences. I've called him twice for service, once because my remote wasn't working, he came out that day and fixed it. It turned out that had I read my manual I would have known to change the batteries! The other time was also concerning the remote: it stopped functioning because it was left on the hearth and fried the electronics. I called John for an appointment and he came out the next day, replaced the signal box, replaced the remote, and even cleaned the interior glass on my sealed fireplace! I would call that exceptional service. That's five stars, not 1. Call John at Hearth Expressions for all your fireplace needs. You will not be disappointed.
I have an old Vermont Castings wood stove that needed service. I called Hearth Expressions. The owner, John was professional and very helpful. He arrived on time and took care of my problem. Even though he didn't sell the Vermont Casting stove brand he took it all apart, cleaned the flue of my chimney, fixed a leak, and ordered the special insulation that had deteriorated. My experience was terrific. Hearth Expressions is the place to go for excellent service.
Purchased a Lopi freedom bay insert which was described on craigs list as having pewter accents. When I got it only the side grilles were pewter leaving the door black and unmatched. John told me I could paint the side grilles but my local fireplace shop told me it probably would not hold. Lopi just had a promotion offering half off and I wanted to get a pewter door to match. I left several messages asking John to call me but he just ignores me. I admire Lopi for not selling to the box stores, but frankly get better customer service from Menards, Home Depot and Lowes.
